Examples
When the date field in Row Dimension is set to day granularity, the metric MAX([Sales Amount]) returns the largest sales amount for each day.
When the date field in Row Dimension is set to month granularity, the metric MAX([Sales Amount]) returns the largest sales amount for each month.
For example, calculate the maximum purchase quantity for each year based on Contract Signing Time.

Add a metric named Maximum Purchase Quantity, and enter the formula MAX([Purchase Quantity]).

Drag Contract Signing Time to Row Dimension, set it to year granularity, and then drag Maximum Purchase Quantity to the Metric area.
