Use this document to sort data in analysis tables and understand where sorting is available.
What Sorting Does
Sorting arranges data in a specific order so that you can compare values more easily. You can sort data in ascending order, descending order, or a custom order.
Custom sorting is available only for text fields.
Important: From May 12, 2026, newly added
Sort
steps are set to
Not Applied
by default and cannot be applied. Historical sort steps that were created before this change still take effect. Use sorting settings inside supported analysis steps, such as grouping, summary, or calculated-field steps, when available.

Sorting Methods
| Sorting Method | Description |
|---|---|
| Ascending | Sorts values from smallest to largest. For dates, the earliest date appears first. |
| Descending | Sorts values from largest to smallest. For dates, the latest date appears first. |
| Custom sort | Sorts text values based on the order that you define. |
Creating a Custom Sort Order
Use custom sorting when the default alphabetical order does not match your business order.
- Select a text field.
- Select Custom Sort.
- Move values from the available list to the custom order list.
- Drag values to adjust their order.
- Add custom values manually if needed.
- Delete values that do not need a custom position.
- Click OK.

You can define up to 100 custom values. Values that are not included in the custom order are sorted after the custom values.
Adding Multiple Sorting Rules
Use multiple sorting rules when one field is not enough to define the order.
For example, you can sort by month in ascending order and then sort by contract amount in descending order.
- Add a sorting configuration where sorting is available.
- Select the first sorting field and sorting method.
- Click Add Sorting Rule.
- Select the next sorting field and sorting method.
- Drag rules to adjust their priority if needed.

Managing Sorting Rules
You can copy sorting rules and reuse them in another sorting configuration when the product supports rule copy and paste.
If many rules are configured, use batch actions to copy or delete rules more efficiently.
Result
After sorting is configured, FineBI Next arranges the data based on the selected sorting rules.
